  • A lift Inverter/ UPS, or elevator UPS, is an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) specifically designed to provide backup power to elevators. Elevators are typically powered by three-phase electricity, and a lift UPS will usually have three-phase input and three-phase output. The UPS will take the incoming power from the grid and store it in batteries. In the event of a power outage, the UPS will switch to battery power and continue to provide power to the elevator.
  • The Lift inverter is required in modern-day high-rise buildings as the Power Cut happens, then the lift stops with a big thud, and a traveller’s heart goes for a toss. The old technology ARD starts the lift lights and tries to open the door. The lift stands still unless the diesel generator powers it. But once the Diesel Generator kicks in, the lift goes down and starts afresh, which is another challenge to solve. The people have the phobia of not travelling into the charge once they get the shock of power failure in the rides. The higher floor lifts have a higher jerk, which a traveller can feel.
  • To install the lift inverter/ERD or lift UPS, all the materials, including the lift inverter and batteries, must be brought to the lift room, and a specialized cabin must be created for the motor controls, etc. Once the material reaches the wiring, it is done for the Lift Inverter, and it needs 3-phase Input wires and three 3-phase output wires to connect to the lift. The earthing is very important for the lift inverter to perform, so the earthing wire needs to be brought to the inverter and fixed at the back of the unit where the earthing sign is made.

The staff and school children travel in that lift, and there has been no stoppage or breakdown. The maintenance of the lift has come down to more than 70% as the lift breakdown happens when the power cuts take place, and the lift runs on a generator, and the power comes back and goes intermittently and creates havoc on the functioning of the lift.
